The Arlene Walters Shevell Scholarship Fund was established in 1991 with the goal of providing financial support for organizations and programs dedicated to the education, rehabilitation and ongoing care of individuals and families facing the unique challenges that a life impacted by addiction can bring. The Fund was created by Parents Support Group, NJ, Inc., in loving memory of Arlene Walters Shevell, a founding member of the New Jersey-based non-profit dedicated to providing mothers and fathers of addicted children with access to peer support, referral resources and most importantly, hope. Keeping that hope alive for individuals and families impacted by the disease of addiction was a cause particularly close to Arlene’s heart during her lifetime, and to her family members who carry on her legacy today. More than 30 years later, Arlene’s wish continues to inform the mission of the Fund, which supports organizations throughout the Unites States that provide addiction and behavioral healthcare services. Organizations that have received support from the Arlene Walters Shevell Scholarship Fund include Alina Lodge Addiction Treatment Center, Caron Treatment Centers, Kaplan House and the CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services) Program at Rollins College. Donations made to the Arlene Walters Shevell Scholarship Fund, part of Parents Support Group, NJ, Inc. – a 501c3 charitable organization – are tax deductible.
